VOICES OF THE CHAPEL

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project involves creating a dramatised tour for Heritage SG's Battle of Singapore event in collaboration with Changi Chapel Museum. This dramatised tour centres around Henry, an Australian soldier, through the defeat of Singapore during World War 2 and the Japanese Occupation. This is achieved through a blending of a regular guided tour and acting.

MY CONTRIBUTIONS

1. I aided in the research of the project in regards to both content and visuals. As seen above, where I am presenting a slide containing the visual research I've done.

2. I sourced for both costumes and props. I would source from a variety of places, both online and in real life stores. Certain items were very hard to find, such as fake batons.

3. I altered and costumes to better fit the vision of the project. For example, I converted a trolley into a minecart and weathered costumes to ensure they look as though they belong to that time period.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED

1. I learned to not be too trusting of online sourcing. For example, when buying costumes for the actors, the costumes were too small, despite me cross-referencing with the actor's measurements.

2. I've learned how to accept mistakes and turn mistakes into opportunities. After said sizing issue, I panicked initially. However, after I took time to calm down and think, I found a way to incorporate the clothes as set dressing instead of discarding them.

3. I learned how to accept help and put away my pride. When sourcing the costumes, due to time constraints I could not find proper military costumes, and instead found clothes that resembled military costumes and wished to alter them. However, an opportunity was provided to us to have a collector loan actual military costumes to us. Despite it hurting my pride to accept costumes instead of altering and creating my own, I ultimately accepted the help in the best interests of the project.
